Joint connectors for Balise cable Theemswegtracé

Rail contractor VolkerRail started the construction of the railway on the 4-kilometer-long viaduct of the Theemswegtracé in January. We supplied joint connectors for the Balise and medium-voltage cables to facilitate the installation of the cabling for energy and railway applications.

Batenburg Energietechniek has developed a specific set of connectors for the Balise cable. This complete set includes all the components required to create these connector joints for the particular cable. In essence, we supply total sets to ensure safe connections throughout the entire route. The welders from Volker Stevin Kabelwerken Railinfra have been trained at Railcenter to create these special connections. In total, around a hundred of these connections have been made on this route.

Additionally, we have supplied connectors of type SOJ from NKT for the medium-voltage cables. Both connectors meet the requirements set by ProRail.

ProRail

The Port of Rotterdam Authority, together with the Dutch government and the European Union, is investing approximately 300 million euros in the Theemswegtracé. After completion, ProRail will take over the management. The rail transport and maritime traffic to and from the Brittanniëhaven are expected to grow in the coming years. Consequently, the Port of Rotterdam Authority anticipates a capacity bottleneck for train traffic. The construction of the Theemswegtracé aims to solve this bottleneck. The new route includes the crossing of two arch bridges and is part of the Betuweroute. Interested in our energy technical solutions for rail? Read more about it here.
